As you know, I DJ for The Standard Hotel’s Lobby in Hollywood about 3 times a month. Tonight I played the early slot and decided to bring the camera along for the Lykke Li DJ performance in the Purple Lounge afterward. The room was rammed, full of sweaty dancers and must-be-seen drinkers all night. By the time Lykke Li had taken to the decks I had heard great music by Hoff, DJ Spider, C-Town and Valida so I thought that no matter what Lykke Li played, I was already content in that area. Standing on a couch, my head smashed up against a speaker at an awkward angle with what felt like the whole state herded towards the tables, I was thankfully surprised. Is that the 50’s classic Lollipop by the Chordette’s she’s Ipod’ing? Whoa, unexpected, in a good way. Despite all the gems she dropped, I finally had to call it a night when hunger set in and the 24/7 Restaurant’s mac ‘n’ cheese begged me for an impromptu date. Jebus, that stuff is too effing good.
